Mary Lowther has lived most of her life in the Village growing up on South Forest Road and graduated from Williamsville South High School. In 2005 she earned her B.S. in Business Management and Economics from SUNY Empire State College.
She has been elected twice to the job of Village Trustee; first in 1991 and again in 2003. Feeling that a different approach was needed on the Village Board, she decided to run in 2003 with Ray Hazlett, Ron Daniels and Jeff Voelkl. In July, 2005 Mary was appointed Mayor to fill the vacated office of Ray Hazlett. She won the 2006 election for the balance of the mayoral term and was again re-elected Mayor in June, 2007 by a broad based, bipartisan group of Village citizens.
"In four years we have made major improvements. We have rejuvenated volunteer advisory committees, published meeting notices in both the Buffalo News and The Amherst Bee, wrote a strong ethics policy, taken proactive stands on development in and around the Village, supported a successful Garden Walk and Farmer's Market, created a Tree Ordinance, installed new antique style street lights in the business district, helped residents survive the October Surprise Storm, plus much more," said Mayor Lowther.
"Our Village currently has over 100 volunteers staffing advisory and decision making committees. It's so important for residents to take ownership in the Village by volunteering their expertise to help stretch our tax dollars. All residents are welcome to join us, so take a moment and click on the Boards/Volunteer section of this site and join us. I welcome your comments, concerns and questions. Please call me or email me anytime," added the Mayor.
Mayor Lowther also works full time for Niagara Frontier Auto Dealers Assoc. as a Services and Benefits Coordinator.
